Feature Ingredient: Strawberries
This recipe obviously uses several other fruits equally, but I was most interested in looking into strawberries; strawberries are sweet (and sometimes sour) red fruits with tiny seeds covering the outside. They're typically eaten fresh or cooked in various foods: e.g. jam, milkshakes, ice creams etc. Strawberries have many health benefits; they are a great source of vitamin C, manganese and various other vitamins and minerals. Since I think most people already know quite a bit on strawberries anyway, I thought I'd just leave some interesting facts also!
Recipe: Chocolate drizzled fruit skewers
Serves 12
Ingredients:
1 punnet of strawberries
1 navel orange, diced into cubes
2 bananas, sliced
1 pear, diced into cubes/pieces
1 apple, diced into cubes/pieces
1/2 a block of milk chocolate
Materials
12 wooden skewers
Method:
- Rinse all the fruit prior to cutting them into smaller pieces as noted above.
- Skewer the fruit pieces in alternating patterns and place onto a plate lined with grease proof paper.
- Melt the chocolate in a bain-marie style; place the chocolate in a metal bowl above a saucepan with boiling water. The steam will melt the chocolate consistently.
- Transfer the melted chocolate into a ziplock bag (cut a hole at one corner) or piping bag and loosely pipe/drizzle the chocolate onto fruit skewers. Try to avoid coating the actual hand-hold part of the skewer.
- Place the now covered skewers into the fridge to cool for at least 5 minutes. Serve whilst chilled.
Here's some photos of the process!
Cover the fruits with some lime juice to prevent them from browning
I made some long skewers and some short ones

I served this will some ice cream on the side

An extremely simple, inexpensive and delicious dessert or snack that is just perfect for those hot days. It is also a healthy and colourful treat that can surely brighten up any setting. The chocolate adds a sweetness to the skewers that isn't too overpowering (like strawberries dipped in chocolate sometimes are) and isn't too non-existent. I'd completely recommend this recipe to anybody who enjoys fruit and/or chocolate - such a fun and yummy treat to make and munch away at!
